In "She's Out of My League," Jay Baruchel plays an average guy
with a boring job who somehow lands a beautiful babe as a girlfriend. No one ... more can
believe it, which, needless to say, puts something of a damper on his confidence
level. Maybe Baruchel can call his "Knocked Up" roommate Seth Rogen for some romantic
advice.
On the surface, "She's Out of My League" seems to be a direct
answer to those critics who thought that those Judd Apatow-brand movies like
"Knocked Up" and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" were nothing but wish-fulfillment
fantasies for out-of-shape, emotionally stunted man-children.
We're not
those critics. We like Rogen and Jason Segel just fine and think that
any movie woman would be lucky to find comfort in the warmth of their lumbering
frames. They might be living in a cardboard box within a year, but they'd still
be smiling because, after all, laughter is the language of the soul. And these
guys speak it fluently.
No, when we hear Joe Jackson sing "Is She Really
Going Out With Him?" we think not of members of the Apatow gang but the
following movie couples in which the woman clearly could do a whole lot
better. Close | |
